Captospinula fecundus is notable as the first species to be first discovered while connected to other occlupanids via lateral processes. A large chain of this uncommon Tridentid was found in Washington, D.C. by occlupanologist EF Lipton. These and other discoveries of connected occlupanids provided the first insights into the mysterious methods of reproduction among occlupanids.
